Where to Shoot Fall Colours in the GTA
Peak fall colour around Toronto usually lands in mid-October. These are the spots our own archive keeps coming back to — every one of them is free to enter and reachable by car or transit.
Rouge National Urban Park (Scarborough)
Canada's largest urban park and our most-photographed location. The Rouge River valley turns early and holds colour late. Go at golden hour for light through the maple canopy along the Vista and Mast trails.
Markham — Toogood Pond & Milne Dam
Calm water means mirror reflections of red maples on still mornings. Toogood Pond in Unionville is small, easy, and spectacular in the third week of October.
High Park (Toronto)
The Grenadier Pond shoreline and the maple hillside near the Bloor Street entrance are the classic frames. Weekday mornings beat the crowds.
Evergreen Brick Works
Industrial brick, wildflower meadows gone gold, and a skyline view from the top of the quarry — the best variety-per-hour of any spot on this list.
Scarborough Bluffs
Bluffer's Park pairs fall trees with the lake and the bluffs. Shoot late afternoon when the cliffs catch warm light.
Tip from our feed: our most-loved photo series ever was a simple fall-foliage walk in Markham — you don't need a national park, you need a still morning and ten minutes of patience.
